An inevitable component in the development of rural communities is education. It helps to keep rural communities sustainable and develop overall. Cherpulassery is a rural area with virtually few educational options. Additionally, the community's socioeconomically disadvantaged groups were unable to access superior educational opportunities. The number of women enrolled in higher education was comparatively small. At this time, Malabr Educational and Charitable Trust was founded in February 2010. MECT primary sectors of focus are education and literacy, health care,rural development and poverty alleviation. MECT is a registered public charitable and educational trust, established in 2010 for charities to the needy, to promote educational, cultural, and social activities for education, for medical relief, and for the advancement of any objects of general public utility.
The institutions under MECT are Malabar Polytechnic Campus (Affiliated with AICTE & SBTE) and Malabar finishing school.
